Gary Glenn Candidate for 98th District State House Will Not Comment on Agema

For once in his life, Gary Glenn has an opportunity to insult gays and lesbians or defend a bigot and he is choosing to remain silent.

But after some controversial comments by Agema, the Bay City-based Michigan Log Cabin Republicans, which bills itself as the largest group of gay and lesbian conservatives, libertarians and Republicans in Michigan, is calling on Glenn to disavow Agema's remarks about gays and Muslims.
Glenn, who declined to comment in response to the Log Cabin Republicans, is a Larkin Township resident and president of the American Family Association of Michigan, a conservative religious organization that opposes what it calls the "homosexual agenda."
In a press release, Michigan Log Cabin Republicans Chairman Joe Sylvester points to a recent GOP event in Berrien County, when Agema reportedly said that gays were in favor of universal health care because they were dying young of AIDS.
"If Gary Glenn was not running for the state House, he would be all over this issue," Sylvester said. "Wherever homophobia rears its ugly head, he is there to defend it. Voters want to know if Glenn is elected, will he support this kind of vitriolic bigotry."
Sylvester called on Glenn to join other prominent Republican leaders including Congressmen Justin Amash and Fred Upton, Speaker of the House Jase Bolger, Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville and former Republican Chairwoman Betsy DeVos in denouncing Agema's remarks.
